Abstract

Background: Problems that often arise among toddlers are malnutrition, malnutrition,stunting and overnutrition or better known as obesity. Children who experience nutritionalproblems will experience impaired growth and development, including their intelligencelevel.This study aims to determine the relationship between levels of protein energyintake, exclusive breastfeeding and maternal knowledge with the nutritional status ofchildren under five (12-59 months) in the Mekar Community Health Center area, KadiaDistrict, Kendari City.Method: This research is a type of quantitative research with a survey approach, with aCross Sectional Study design. This aims to describe systematically, factually andaccurately the facts and characteristics of the population in an area. The sample used was86 children under five who had Malnutrition and Good Nutrition status according to theBB/TP or BB/TB index. Held from April 16 to May 20 2024 in the working area of theMekar Health Center, Kendari City.Results: This research showed that of the 86 samples, there were 38 people (47.7%) inthe deficient category, namely 38 people (47.7%) had sufficient energy intake fortoddlers, while 48 people (52.3%) had adequate energy intake. There were 40 people(46.5%) with insufficient protein intake, while there were 46 people (53.5%) withsufficient protein intake. The history of toddlers who were exclusively breastfed was 39people (45.3%) while those who were not exclusively breastfed were 47 people (54.7%).There were 34 toddlers in the maternal knowledge category (39.5%) while there were 52toddlers in the maternal knowledge category (60.5%).Conclusion: The results of statistical tests state that there is a relationship (p=0.001)between energy intake and nutritional status in toddlers. There is a relationship (p=0.005)between protein intake and nutritional status in toddlers. There is a relationship (p=0.002)between history of exclusive breastfeeding and nutritional status in toddlers. There is arelationship (p=0.001) between maternal knowledge and nutritional status in toddlers.
