Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition where a toddler has less length or height compared to children his age. The prevalence of stunting at the Rahia Community Health Center in 2020 was 34.5%. Then it will decrease to 31.3% in 2021. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge, eating patterns and family income for children under five with the incidence of stunting in the working area of the Rahia Community Health Center, Gu District, Central Buton Regency. Method: This type of research is descriptive analytical observational with a case control study design. The population was all 37 toddlers aged 12-59 months who experienced stunting and the sample for this study was all 37 toddlers aged 12-59 months who experienced stunting and 37 controls. Case sampling uses total sampling and controls use a matching system. Data on maternal knowledge, eating patterns and family income were obtained through interviews, while stunting was obtained from measuring body weight and height. Data were analyzed using the Odd Ratio (OR) test. Results: Most of the mothers of children under five are not working as much as 83.8%, most of the mothers' education is low at 55.4%, most of the mothers have less knowledge at 47.3%. The results of statistical tests state that there is a relationship (p=0.010) between maternal knowledge and the incidence of stunting in children under five, there is a relationship (p=0.017) between diet and the incidence of stunting in children under five, there is a relationship (p=0.013) between family income with the incidence of stunting in children under five. Mothers with less nutritional knowledge are at risk with a value of OR=2.92 times of having stunted children, children under five whose eating habits are less at risk with a value of OR=3.05 times of having stunted children, children under five with low family income are at risk with a value of OR= 2 .75 times have stunted children. Suggestion: For mothers who have children under five with stunted nutritional status, it is hoped that they can provide nutritionally balanced food to children under five and spend time caring for children under five, especially adjusting their eating patterns so that they can improve their nutritional status.
